1. Research overview
'A study on the development of education contents to promote creativity and humanity based on social curation-based movies', seed-type research (September 2013 - August 2014), has been conducted in an interdisciplinary study for promoting creativity and humanity whose importance is growing in the educational capabilities of our time.
While there have been cases that use movies in a fragmentary level in the frame of media education after analyzing previous studies, there have not been a case that applies it to an educational content to promote creativity and humanity in the regular curriculum of universities. This study focused on the fact that we need to train teacher-to-be through the basic frame of the creativity and humanity education to nurture talents equipped with creativity and humanity. That is why the author tried to develop movie-based educational contents to enhance creativity and humanity using ICT technology called social curation for pre-kindergarten teachers, and carried out interdisciplinary study combined with pedagogy, engineering, and image.
The detailed goals of this study are as follows. First, the author tries to combine different studies in a macroscopic way using movies by exchanging and utilizing information through social curation which is differentiated to conventional teaching method so as to suggest a new prospect of teaching teachers for creativity and humanity. Second, through this study, the author aims for teachers to grow into creative teachers equipped with the character that can creatively detect and solve problems in the major areas as well as in the everyday life. Third, the author aims to use the results of this study for the cultural studies of university students from different majors who need to establish solid ego identity and to form right values.
2. Details and performances of the study
To carry out this study, researchers of interdisciplinary team made up of professionals in education, video, and IT set an educational model based on movies, explored educational elements of movies, and analyzed social curation services for the education to promote creativity and humanity based on movies. After that, we verified the educational effects of the education and confirmed the potential to educationally use curation services.
Details on the contents, range, and methods of this study are as follows. First, we suggested the basic directions of educational contents. Second, we set the elements comprising the education to promote creativity and humanity. Third, we surveyed the perceptions on the development of movies as an educational content. Fourth, we selected movies to be developed into the educational contents to promote creativity and humanity. Fifth, we studied cases that can be applied in classes. Lastly, we analyzed curation services in the class called 'movies and creativity'.
There are a number of research outcomes in accordance with the above objectives; 4 cases of papers, 2 academic presentations, human resources, spread of knowledge, media activities, awards by running courses related to creativity and humanity which are the channels used to draw research results.
3. Plans to use the research results
As we have been able to confirm the results effective to promote creativity and humanity of pre-kindergarten teachers applying social curation educational contents based on movies in the field of pedagogy, we plan to expand the subjects into university students on our future seed-type studies and to apply this model into liberal arts related to creativity and humanity. In addition to movies, we plan to use other videos such as animation, documentaries, advertisements, and web-toon to expand the range of educational contents and establish curation web services and smart phone services optimized for education.
