Development trajectory of East Asian and European countries regarding informatization shows the power of path dependency. East Asian countries, including South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, which have experienced the state-led industrialiation, still exhibtis the powerful role of the state in pursuing informatiziation, whereas the European countries, including Ireland, Sweden and Germany, which have experienced the market-led industrialization, basically relied on the market forces in pursuing informatization. However, the variations within East Asian countries as well as European countries are striking. The cases of Ireland and Sweden show that the traits of 'flexible developmental state' / 'developmental network state.' This means that the state has been very instrumental in inducing the investment decision of the business. In addition, the states in Sweden and Ireland had set goals for the market and created infrastructure of the investments.
Within the East Asian states, South Korean state played very important role in creating demand and R&D, whereas Japan and Taiwanese stated less prominent role. This is a brief summary of the first year research project.
As for the summary of the second year research project, the list of articles presented at the summer academic conference (2005) hosted by Korean Association of International Studies would be sufficient, because the authors are in the process of revising articlues for journal publication, which will surely take some time.
